TYPHOON HAIYAN: 11.3 MILLION SUFFERING IN PHILIPPINES.

As you are probably aware, Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on Friday, Nov. 8. According to UNICEF, around 1.7 million children are believed to be living in areas in the typhoon’s path. Currently electricity is out in major cities. According to CNN.com, nearly half a million people were forced out of their homes due to the storm. News agencies are reporting that Haiyan was three and a half times more powerful than Hurricane Katrina and upwards of 10,000 men, women and children are feared dead.
Typhoon Haiyan, the largest typhoon to hit
land in recorded history, has left 350,000 Filipinos living without water, food or shelter. With buildings smashed to pieces and trees snapped in half, water continues to flood streets leaving most places unlivable.

As we cry out to God for those in the Philippines, we can stand on His word of truth:  Ps. 9:9, 10 – “The Lord will be for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. “As He was preparing the disciples for His departure, Jesus gave them an incredible truth – “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have .  , but take courage; I have  the world.” (John 16:33)

These words are just as important to us, today.  The world is a troubling place….it has been since the Fall.  But, Jesus has overcome the world!  The trouble and tribulation of this world is .  Note Rev. 21:4,5; “and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any; there shall no longer be any ,or, or ; the first things have passed away.  And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making  new.”

There is a new day coming! We will encounter some tough and trying times, but the destiny of the believer is secure, for all eternity! We have His word on it. In times of crisis like this, so many of us feel helpless and just want to do something, anything that will make
a difference.  And we can!  This is an opportunity to live out God’s commands throughout the Bible to help those in need. Hebrews 13:16 says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
