We all look forward to different seasons for our own reasons. While some of us gleefully anticipate the coming of Fall and Winter, others of us bide our time, just waiting for the sunny warmth of Spring and Summer to return. While there are many valid reasons to enjoy Fall and Winter, I fall into the latter category as a warm weather lover. For my fellow Spring and Summer seekers, allow me to impart a few thoughts and share a few local resources you may want to explore.
It took me many years to make the connection between my mood in the Fall and Winter months and the clothing that the colder temperatures necessitated. The bulky sweaters, the extra layers, the coats and hats needed, all seemed to quite literally weigh me down.
I missed the unencumbered freedom of needing less to stay comfortable, and quite frankly, I missed the color found in my warm weather wardrobe! The color I craved seemed everywhere I looked in the Spring and Summer, (though to be fair, about half of fall as well). From the array of pinks, purples, and reds dotting the trees in the Spring, to the Summer sunsets, to the sea of colorful clothing adorning many people around me; I didn’t have to look far to feel that natural lift in my spirits that seems to follow the carefree, colorful nature of warm weather attire.
I realized that muted, drab, and primary colors all seemed to dominate my cold weather wardrobe. Naturally, upon this realization, I slowly but surely worked in more uplifting pieces over the years. We still need to dress for the weather when it’s cold out, but that doesn’t have to take the fun out of getting dressed, even on the coldest and darkest of days. There’s nothing wrong with working a little Summer flair into a Winter weather outfit! As the saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!
For those of you who can relate, I have included a few pictures to offer up some outfit inspiration. These bolder colors are sure to warm up the frostiest of moods in this cold winter weather.
Before we know it, the warm weather will return, but until then, despite the forecast, let’s live like it’s Spring! Go out on a limb, try something new getting dressed in the mornings and just wait for the smile it brings to your face or someone else’s around you!
She who marches to the beat of her own drummer is a happy girl : )
Something as simple as a different shade of lipstick, or a statement necklace can feel a little liberating during the time of year we all could use a touch of warmth and fun.
In the greater Dayton area, we are fortunate to be surrounded by many clothing retailers of all kinds. Like most people, I have a few standby favorites that I will probably always return to when the need arises to replace or refresh clothing options. However, I have recently discovered a few newer gems not everyone may be aware of just yet.
Bloom Fashion in Vandalia, Ohio is one place you may want to hit up if it’s time to liven up your wardrobe a bit. Where do you shop to find clothes that make you happy for a great price?

New clothes always makes me happy
I desperately need new clothes! 🙂 You are an inspiration Sybil!
They have some really cute tunics and dresses. I so need new clothes, cute new clothes!
Syb! This is a great post! THANK YOU! It has freed me a bit because I have always been one to stick to all the rules: only wearing white during the warm seasons and not being very creative during the cold season. But your posting is right on time and encouraging. You make me want to go now and pull out my white blazer and go right out in this snow looking fabulous! Thank you for encouraging us to have fun in ach season with our wardrobe. Oh and cute pic of you above. I love the new hair color. Nice!
Great thoughts, Sybil! I’m really enjoying wearing bold red or a brighter pink lipstick right now. It’s a fun pop of color and seems to brighten any outfit. 🙂 I like a lot of the fall/winter colors, personally… but I go for the deep orange or a nice royal purple, too. 🙂
Love your thoughts Kristin and Ro : ) So many ways to live each day to the fullest….
