Dear Drive-Thru Angel,
We had never met before. By the world’s standards, you had no reason to show us any more kindness than anyone else. But that’s just it – something tells me you are just that kind to everyone who is fortunate enough to visit your drive-thru window, having no idea the sheer joy they are about to encounter from surely the world’s friendliest, happiest Arby’s employee, (maybe even the world’s happiest person) 🙂
You had no clue how we would respond when you attributed your joy to “Him”. You could not have guessed we would respond in kind as you declared that there is every reason to be glad and grateful just because you got to wake up this morning. But you did it anyway, because you felt it so sincerely that the joy seemed to emanate from your every pore, straight from the heart. Well I want you to know, we caught that joy as it seeped out of you and we bottled it up so that we too, may share it with others who need it – inspired by your example.Â
You had no idea how much you would inspire my impressionable young daughter, as she looked at you all starry-eyed and swooning. The way she talked about you all the way home, I know it was an experience she won’t soon forget!
You couldn’t have known your joy was so contagious that I could hardly wait to share the magic of our meeting with my whole family. Here I am even sharing it with my blog readers, because I want the world to know there are people just like you in it. I want people to know they can even be those people too – people like you, who give of themselves, right where they’re at. It doesn’t matter where you spend your days, for everywhere can become a mission field, if we choose to make it so.
You clearly choose to live life as a testimony from behind that drive-thru window. So I had to write you this letter. Because you made a profound difference in our day and taught an unforgettable lesson for our lives and I just wanted you to know. Thank you!

Spread joy everywhere! Even when – ESPECIALLY when – the world shows you a different side. Because your joy is a characteristic of God that is rarely seen but sooooo needed! True joy can’t be contained…..and shouldn’t be. And joy is not a smile because everything in life is going well. It is a feeling that only God can give us when everything ISN’T going well. Thanks for reminding me of that, Sybil. <3
Rarely seen, but oh that man just as easily could have been YOU at the drive-thru window and I have no doubt you would have made just as big an impact on any given customer! You are an amazing person who seriously makes a difference more than you could ever know, just like the man I wrote about!
We are neighbors today over at Holleys, sharing a cup of coffee together! I love this post – this truth… this Call to be filled and overflowing with Him, so our joy is full and it can spill out wherever we go! So Much Amen!

It’s up to us to spread the joy–no matter what. Thank you for sharing your story–it makes me want to guard my attitude so that I can always share his joy.
You know the conviction to to guard my attitude so that I can always share His joy is exactly what I took away from my encounter with the joyful Arbys worker too! Thank you so much for your feedback!! : )
